Pep Guardiola identifies Liverpool as Manchester City’s premier rivals

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has singled out Liverpool as his team’s primary English rivals, overlooking last season’s title competitors, Arsenal.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Guardiola emphasized that Liverpool will always be considered their biggest rivals. He stated, “When I finish my career in England, Liverpool will have been my rival, our rival. Always.”

When asked about Arsenal’s position in the rivalry hierarchy, Guardiola continued, “Now, they [Arsenal] will start to be there, and last season. But before, they were not there, to win the FA Cups, the title. They did not play in the Champions League. It’s the first season they are playing now in many, many years.”

He acknowledged that Liverpool had historically been their main rivals, but added, “So the [main] rivals have been Liverpool. But now, they [Arsenal] have knocked on the door and they are here and they arrived to stay, and Newcastle, and other teams.”
