During an official visit to the area, officially known as ‘Road N12’ in the Mabushi District of the FCT, Wike expressed concern about the colony’s presence, which is situated behind the Minister’s Quarters in Mabushi District. He referred to it as a “security threat” to the city.

The area has become a gathering place for scavengers, often referred to as ‘Baban Bola,’ and is home to mechanics and furniture makers.

Accompanied by a combined team of security personnel and senior officials from the FCT Administration, Wike emphasized the need to rid the city of criminal elements and made it clear that such criminal hideouts would not be tolerated in the FCT.

Wike noted that the presence of the colony was facilitated by the dense canopy of cashew trees planted by indigenous people for speculative purposes. He issued a warning against planting such trees in areas designated for government development, stating that the government would not provide compensation for the trees.

The minister directed the Development Control Department and the Federal Capital Development Authority to clear the entire area and define the scope of the road for preliminary work.

He emphasized that there would be no compensation for those occupying the area, reiterating that it was a haven for criminals and should be cleared immediately. Wike emphasized the importance of taking action to maintain safety and security in the FCT.

In his words, “It is not a question of giving them notice. There is no notice. You must chase them out now and clear the entire area.”
