Alongside the new Chairman, President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the anti-graft agency. Mr. Hammajoda is set to serve for a renewable term of five years initially, pending Senate confirmation.
The decision to appoint Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC is in accordance with the powers vested in President Bola Tinubu as defined in section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004. Mr. Olukoyede, with more than 22 years of experience as a lawyer specializing in regulatory compliance consulting and fraud management, possesses extensive knowledge in the operations of the EFCC. He had previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and as Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023. This background positions him as an ideal candidate for the role of Chairman of the EFCC.
Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda, the newly appointed Secretary of the Commission, is a seasoned public administrator with expertise in public finance management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Business Administration from the same institution. His career trajectory includes experience as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and successful roles in the banking sector, including positions at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.
