Enugu State Governor, Barr Peter Mbah, has officially commenced a series of extensive infrastructure projects, aiming to transform the state. These initiatives include the construction of New Enugu City roads, a 17km dual carriageway, feeder roads, a 40km dual carriageway from Owo to Ikem, and the reconstruction of 71 urban roads within the capital city of Enugu.

Governor Mbah, during the symbolic commencement of the urban road construction, assured that these projects would be executed simultaneously and completed before the end of December. He emphasized that the funds required for these roads had been secured and that strict adherence to agreed-upon quality standards and timelines was crucial. He further highlighted that the roads would feature paved pedestrian paths, streetlights, and durable construction to ensure long-lasting infrastructure.

In addition to this, Governor Mbah inaugurated the construction of the New Enugu City roads project, which spans 10,000 hectares and traverses several local government areas. These efforts are set to elevate Enugu to a prominent position in Nigeria and beyond. The New Enugu City project is handled by China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) and is expected to become a modern and efficient city within the next 24 months, complete with a power project, central sewage system, high-speed internet, and other essential amenities found in smart cities.

In total, 400km of roads were initiated for construction in the first phase of the government’s ambitious plan to build 10,000km of roads over the next eight years. The construction contractors, including the Deputy Managing Director of CCCC Nigeria, Henry Li, assured the government of their dedication to delivering high-quality projects within the specified timelines.

Communities, traditional rulers, council chairmen, and residents expressed their gratitude for these substantial projects and pledged their support and cooperation to ensure their swift and successful completion.
