Multiple fuel tankers ignite on Otedola bridge in Lagos, trapping several individuals

A harrowing incident occurred on Thursday evening as three fuel tankers erupted into a raging inferno on Otedola Bridge, situated in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos. The mishap left many individuals trapped in the ensuing chaos.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that this devastating fire outbreak was the result of a collision involving the oil tankers.

According to Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu, it was discovered that one of the tankers was ascending the bridge when it rolled back onto another tanker, creating a domino effect that ultimately ignited the fire.

As the situation continued to unfold, the precise number of individuals trapped in the inferno remained uncertain. However, preliminary assessments indicated that the incident involved multiple accidents, including three container-laden trucks.

The grave incident affected a total of three fuel tankers, two of which were carrying unknown yet highly flammable substances. Additionally, one tipper truck loaded with gravel, one flatbed truck, and three passenger cars were also caught in the ensuing chaos.

In response to the crisis, four fire trucks were promptly dispatched to the scene, accompanied by personnel from LASTMA (Lagos State Traffic Management Authority), LASEMA (Lagos State Emergency Management Agency), and the Nigeria Police. Their collective efforts were focused on containing the fire and minimizing further damage while seeking to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of safety measures and precautions when dealing with highly flammable materials, especially in densely populated urban areas.
