Anambra Police thwart armed robbery plot, seize two AK-47 rifles

In a successful operation, the Anambra State Police Command has thwarted a planned armed robbery and kidnapping attempt by gunmen in Awka North Local Government Area. This operation was carried out by the Rapid Response Squad from Awkuzu during a patrol in the area.

The incident took place along the Ebenebe-Achalla Road in Awka North LGA. Acting on a tip-off from a vigilant citizen who spotted two gunmen on a motorcycle along the road, the police operatives swiftly responded.

Upon encountering the armed individuals, a confrontation ensued. The suspects attempted to engage the police in a shootout but were ultimately overpowered by the well-prepared officers. In their retreat, the suspects abandoned their weapons and fled into the nearby bushes.

A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, both loaded with numerous rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and expended ammunition shells.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the team for their bravery and urged them to continue proactive operations in the region until all criminal elements causing trouble in that part of the state are eradicated.
