Ogun state to establish new ministries, focus on key sectors

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has revealed plans to create new ministries, emphasizing the importance of key sectors for the state’s development. During a meeting with Permanent Secretaries, Governor Abiodun shared his vision to establish the Ministries of Mineral Resources, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy, and Energy.

He also disclosed the separation of the Ministry of Youths from the Ministry of Sports, a move aimed at setting up the Ogun State Sports Commission.

Governor Abiodun highlighted that these new ministries would provide the state administration with the opportunity to concentrate on essential sectors, attributing the decision to their vital roles in achieving the government’s objectives.

He underscored the potential for Ogun to become an oil-producing state during his tenure and mentioned the administration’s focus on electricity generation following the unbundling of the sector.

The creation of the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy aligns with Ogun’s status as the education capital of Nigeria, and the state’s tech-savvy youth will benefit from the new ministry in terms of employment opportunities.

Governor Abiodun expressed his commitment to establishing these ministries, emphasizing the need for full ministerial status to provide the required administrative support and achieve sector-specific objectives.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun appreciated the support of permanent secretaries and civil servants, especially following the favorable Tribunal judgment in his favor. He emphasized the importance of synergy between political appointees and civil servants, highlighting that cooperation, rather than competition, would best serve the state’s interests.

He called for unity among civil servants and political appointees to collectively work towards the overall well-being and prosperity of Ogun State.
