During his visit to the National Press Council as part of a familiarization tour of agencies under his ministry, the Minister stressed the significance of responsible journalism, particularly in Nigeria’s advanced democratization process. He highlighted the importance of exercising press freedom in a manner that upholds ethical standards and encourages responsible reporting.

The government acknowledges the pivotal role of the press in society and aims to create an environment in which journalists can carry out their duties without undue constraints. The Minister assured that the government would provide the necessary support and enabling conditions for the press to function effectively.

He emphasized that while the administration has no intention of restricting the press, press freedom comes with the responsibility of responsible reporting. Therefore, journalists should exercise their freedom in a responsible manner.

The Minister also pointed out that his ministry is responsible for the Renewed Hope agenda of the current administration, with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) serving as the launch pad for this campaign. He announced plans for a national discussion on value reorientation in Nigeria, underscoring the significance of character, a value that influences all aspects of national life. The Minister stressed that returning to core values is essential for Nigeria’s progress and development, given the erosion of the values left by the nation’s founding fathers.

During his visit, the Minister was accompanied by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari, and the Executive Secretary of the National Press Council, Mr. Francis N. Nwosu.
