Mr. Olukoyede’s confirmation as the EFCC chairman by the Senate was officially announced on the same day. His nomination had come from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The former EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, had previously resigned from his position following his suspension by President Tinubu, which was reportedly due to alleged abuse of office.
During the confirmation process, which lasted for approximately three hours, several important questions were raised, particularly regarding financial crime matters, and these were directed at Olukoyede. Notably, Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, raised concerns about potential conflicts of responsibility between EFCC and other similar agencies, with a particular focus on the National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
