UEFA has made an official announcement regarding the Euro 2024 qualifier match between Belgium and Sweden, which was abandoned due to a security incident in Brussels. The governing body of European football has ruled that the abandoned match’s half-time score will be considered “final,” with each team receiving one point.

In an official statement, UEFA declared:
“Each team is awarded one point, with the Group F standings to be updated accordingly. Any suspension is considered served, and single yellow cards remain valid. The decision to do so was made as it proved impossible to continue the match on the following day, taking into account the circumstances.
Both the Royal Belgian Football Association and the Swedish Football Association have explicitly expressed their desire not to complete the match and consider the result at the half-time interval (1-1) as the final outcome.

This result will not affect the qualification status in Group F, as Belgium is already mathematically qualified for the UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament (along with Austria), and Sweden is mathematically eliminated. Given the fixture schedule, no suitable date is available during the upcoming November international window when the preliminary group stage of the competition must be concluded, followed by the play-off draw and the final tournament draw.”
It’s worth noting that this match was marred by a tragic terror attack that resulted in two Swedish fans losing their lives and another sustaining severe injuries. The attacker was subsequently sh@t and k#lled by Brussels police while at a cafe in the Schaerbeek neighborhood.
