In a press release, Mr. Onuko denied being part of a convoy but admitted to the altercation. He claimed that the commercial driver drove recklessly, prompting his personal security aides to intervene. Mr. Onuko stated:
“I have been inundated with calls and messages from well-meaning friends, colleagues, and ndi Anambra over a video clip that has gone viral on social media regarding an altercation between a GUO driver and myself, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority.
“I take full responsibility for all that, and I also apologize to the young man, his company GUO, and my friends and well-wishers who have been embarrassed by my association with such an act.”

He clarified that he was driving with two civil defense officers in the back seat of his Toyota Hilux vehicle, and there was no convoy.
GUO Transport, in response to the incident, has announced its intention to seek legal redress. The company stated that its driver was assaulted by political thugs on the orders of Mr. Onuko. GUO Transport also criticized the press statement from the Anambra State Government’s press secretary, which appeared to justify the incident by blaming the driver’s recklessness.
GUO Transport has called on the Governor of Anambra State to condemn the behavior of his officials and initiate an inquiry into the incident to prevent future occurrences and maintain peace in the state.
