George Ekpungu advises new EFCC secretary to prioritize loyalty and staff interests

Former Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), George Ekpungu, offered valuable advice to the newly appointed Secretary, Muhammad Hammajoda, emphasizing the importance of loyalty and prioritizing the interests of staff during his tenure.

During the official handover ceremony in Abuja on Friday, Ekpungu stressed the significance of showing loyalty to the EFCC, as well as to the Executive Chairman. He expressed confidence that Hammajoda’s success in his new role would be greatly aided by maintaining a dedicated commitment to the Commission and considering the welfare of staff as a top priority.

Ekpungu conveyed his well-wishes, saying, “It is my pleasure to witness this day for several reasons. Fortunately for me, we have worked together, and my advice to you as you assume this role is to be loyal to the Chairman. Also, aspire to be present in the system and put the interests of staff as a priority… I wish you all the best.”

In response, Hammajoda expressed his gratitude to the former Secretary for his dedicated service during his time in office. He extended his commitment to seek Ekpungu’s guidance and expertise by stating, “I will always call you from time to time to tap from your wealth of experience, and whenever I need your assistance, I will surely call you. I wish you the best of luck.”

Hammajoda’s appointment as the Secretary to the EFCC was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, marking the beginning of his role within the organization.
