APC Chieftain Nabena calls for Sheikh Gumi’s arrest over remarks against Wike

Yekini Nabena, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the country’s security agencies to arrest Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, for his recent public outburst against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a video posted on his official Facebook page, Gumi labeled Wike as a “Satan” for receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria and asserted that President Bola Tinubu would be prevented from serving for eight years.

Nabena issued a statement condemning such statements and warning that Gumi and others would be held responsible if anything goes wrong during Wike’s tenure. He criticized what he called the sense of entitlement by some ‘ethnic and religious bigots’ in Northern Nigeria, stressing that these attitudes were dividing the nation.

Nabena expressed concern over the perceived disparity in the distribution of leadership positions in the country, questioning the rationale behind some Northerners holding positions that were naturally meant for people from the Niger Delta and the South.

He called for the presidency to make a bold statement reaffirming the right of any Nigerian to hold public office anywhere in the country and urged the security agencies to take Sheikh Gumi’s remarks seriously.

Nabena’s statement emphasizes the need for responsible public comments to prevent further division in the nation and called for Sheikh Gumi to be arrested, questioned, and prosecuted.

He also made it clear that the Niger Delta people would hold Sheikh Gumi responsible if any harm came to Nyesom Wike during his tenure as FCT Minister.
