Nigerian army issues stern warning to religious leaders regarding inflammatory sermons

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major-General AE Abubakar, has issued a stern warning to religious leaders in Plateau State, emphasizing the need to refrain from delivering incendiary sermons. He made it clear that any religious leader found responsible for incitement would be held accountable for their actions.

Plateau State has been plagued by a series of ethno-religious conflicts that have resulted in the tragic loss of hundreds of lives.

Major-General Abubakar took the opportunity to address religious leaders during a symposium at the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba Barrack in Jos. The purpose of this event was to promote a deeper understanding and collaboration between security agencies and religious leaders, with the aim of fostering peace and stability in the region.

Rev Father Boniface Nkum, commenting on this issue, emphasized the importance of educating clergymen in all communities about the necessity for religious harmony and tolerance towards other faiths. He stressed the need for religious leaders to keep their sermons within the boundaries of moderation and modesty, thus promoting peaceful coexistence and understanding among different religious groups.
