The federal government of Nigeria has successfully repatriated 108 irregular Nigerian migrants who were stranded in Niger Republic. This repatriation effort was carried out as part of the government’s commitment to assisting its citizens in difficult situations.

According to a statement released by Alexander Oturu, the South-West zonal coordinator of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the group of repatriated Nigerians consisted of 32 males, 29 females, 44 children, and three infants.
The statement further explained that these migrants were transported to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency camp. At this camp, the NCFRMI and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have a tripartite agreement to provide temporary shelter for the returnees. The migrants will also receive an onward transportation allowance to help them reach their final destinations.
The repatriation process was a collaborative effort between the Nigerian mission in Niamey and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The NCFRMI noted that these returnees would be integrated into various government programs and the reintegration initiatives offered by the UN migration agency. This effort aligns with the government’s commitment to the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” ensuring that citizens facing challenges are given necessary support and opportunities for reintegration and a better future.
