A 21-year-old man, Saliu Abdullahi, has been handed a jail sentence of one year and three months for his involvement in theft.

Abdullahi was apprehended by law enforcement officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kaiama Division, Kwara State Command.

The arrest took place in Luman, Agbara Local Government, Niger State, following an allegation of housebreaking and theft made by Baba Umar of Pissio extension area, Kaiama.

The suspect, upon his arrest, confessed to the allegations against him during his statement to the authorities. Among the items recovered from him were a stabilizer, a radio, and clothing.

The case was brought before the Grade 1 Area Court, with trial judge Adamu Lukman presiding.

The verdict sentenced the suspect to three months in prison without the option of a fine for trespass, and one year in prison without the option of a fine for theft.

Saliu Abdullahi will serve his sentences at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in New Bussa.

The Kwara State Commandant of the Civil Defense Corps, Umar J.G. Mohammed, took the opportunity to appeal to the public, especially young individuals involved in housebreaking and other criminal activities, to abandon their unlawful pursuits.
