Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has come to the defense of striker Erling Haaland, suggesting that critics are overly harsh and want the Norwegian to fail.

Guardiola’s comments came after Haaland scored a brace in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. While Haaland managed to end his five-game goal drought in the competition, he missed a few good scoring opportunities during the match.
Despite Haaland’s impressive record of 11 goals in 14 games this season, some have compared his current performances to his extraordinary 52-goal season last year and found them wanting.
Guardiola, however, expressed his concern about the pressure on Haaland and defended the striker. He told TNT Sports after the victory over Young Boys, “A lot, a lot. Honestly, I’m so concerned! The people expect him to score four goals every time. The people want him to fail. I am sorry, but this guy will score goals all his life; he is an incredible threat with the chances he gets.”
