President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned 15 newly completed projects at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State. During the 2023 convocation ceremonies, these projects were unveiled on behalf of the President by Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education.

The commissioned projects include the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences building, the Advancement Centre building, the Department of Anatomy building, the extension of the University Clinic, the Department of Chemical Engineering building, the Faculty of Engineering’s 400-seater capacity studio, and two 500-seater capacity lecture theatres for the Faculty of Engineering.

Additionally, the construction of a four-bedroom apartment for the Community-Based Experience and Service (COBES), a perimeter block wall fence, asphalt overlay on the existing road from the university gate to the Senate building (phases 1 and 2), asphalt overlay on the existing road from the university main campus to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (phase 5), and asphalt overlay on the road at UNILORIN GRA Staff Quarters were also commissioned. Furthermore, the construction of a road from NOC to the Faculty of Arts and Law and the construction of the road to the university primary school were part of the projects unveiled.

President Tinubu expressed his satisfaction with the importance and necessity of these projects in enhancing effective teaching and learning. He commended the University of Ilorin’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for ensuring the high-quality standards of the projects. The President advised that the new facilities, particularly the laboratories, be fully utilized to attract university grants.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), highlighted that research and innovation are integral to the University of Ilorin, which has contributed significantly to patent registrations in Nigeria. The institution currently holds 36 patents with the Federal Government, emphasizing its commitment to innovation and research.

Prof. Egbewole assured continued efforts to advance the university’s mission and further its growth.
