Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), the Chairman of NDLEA, emphasized the critical nature of the fight against drug abuse. He addressed this issue while discussing a partnership request and the need for additional NDLEA officers in Katsina State with Governor Dikko Radda.
The drug problem, particularly the criminal aspects associated with it, has had a significant impact on the lives of young people and communities. General Marwa pointed out that 99% of criminals are influenced by drugs when committing their criminal acts. As a result, the NDLEA has focused its efforts on what they term “operation offensive action.” This operation involves seizing drugs cultivated, imported, or on the verge of being exported out of the country.
The agency’s relentless actions have resulted in the seizure of over 6,668 tonnes of illicit substances within a two-year period. Additionally, they have arrested more than 36,096 suspects, with over 6,043 already prosecuted and convicted.
