The Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, dismissing petitions from the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi challenging his presidency.
In a press release issued in Abuja on Sunday, Olawepo-Hashim stressed that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the one with the democratic mandate, has more work to do with the economy facing its worst inflation in over twenty years, and the nation’s currency devalued by 80% in just four months of his administration in the unofficial market.”
He also emphasized that “hitting the ground running now would not be sufficient; he needs to take flight when necessary.”

Olawepo-Hashim urged Atiku and Obi to commit themselves to uniting Nigeria, rescuing the economy, and improving the welfare of the citizens.
He recalled advocating for a government of national unity leading up to the 2023 elections.
“Before and after the election, we had repeatedly stressed that the post-Buhari administration must resemble a Government of National Unity, similar to General Gowon’s post-civil war cabinet, due to the severe division within the polity and the extensive damage to the economy,” he said.
He also pointed out that in the face of Nigeria’s predicament, key responsibilities should not be handed to mere yes-men and women. Instead, the nation requires the most capable individuals.
Olawepo-Hashim concluded his statement by congratulating Tinubu on his Supreme Court victory.
