Rivers Assembly in turmoil, four members suspended amidst crisis

Amidst a growing crisis within the Rivers State House of Assembly, the decision has been made to suspend four of its members. The unfolding situation commenced with the suspension of Edison Ehie, the Leader of the House representing the Ahoada constituency, during Monday’s session.

Furthermore, additional members of the Assembly have been suspended. These include Goodboy Sokari Goodboy, who also represents Ahoada, Adolphus Timothy, representing Opobo/Nkoro, and Victor Oko-Jumbo, representing Bonny.

The Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, officially announced the suspensions of Ehie and the other four members. The decision was prompted by allegations that they were involved in the incident that led to an explosion at the Assembly complex on Sunday night.

Additionally, the Assembly declared its intention to initiate an impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing alleged misuse of power and misconduct as grounds for the action.

The announcement of the impeachment process met with resistance from loyalists of Governor Fubara and Edison Ehie, who took actions that led to the evacuation of Assembly members from the complex.
