PDP strength in Ebonyi remains unshaken despite resignations, say party Chieftains

Two prominent figures within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Boniface Igwe and Emmanuel Uka, have expressed their confidence that the recent resignations of key members, including Senator Obinna Ogba and Livinus Makwe, will not weaken the opposition party in the state.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, Igwe and Uka, who are ardent supporters of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last general election, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, assured that the PDP remains resilient in Ebonyi.

The resignations of six former local government party chairmen and other prominent leaders, who have decided to switch their allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), were seen as a response to their alleged actions working against the party’s interests during the 2023 election.

“We believe these individuals were allegedly working against the party’s interests during the 2023 election, so their resignations did not come as a surprise to the party,” the statement read.

Igwe and Uka emphasized their commitment to pursuing legal means to reclaim the mandate that was freely given to the PDP by the Ebonyi electorate. They highlighted the significant voter turnout that supported AnyiChuks as the governor, reaffirming their party’s unwavering focus on recovering their mandate.

“As a party, we remain steadfast in our mission to reclaim our mandate, and this is a commitment we owe to our people,” they concluded.

The PDP chieftains firmly believe that the PDP’s strength in Ebonyi remains undiminished despite recent resignations and defections to the APC, emphasizing their determination to uphold the will of the people.
