The Rivers State Police Command has brought 122 youths before a Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt on charges related to an alleged attempt to invade the residence of the embattled Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, on Tuesday.

In the charges presented in court on Wednesday, the accused, including Chijioke Ihunwo, the state Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, were charged with conspiracy, causing a riot, damaging the entrance gate to the Speaker’s residence, unlawful assembly, and causing a breach of public peace.
However, the accused individuals pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Gift Amadi granted bail to the accused in the amount of N100 million each, with 20 sureties representing all the accused.

The Chief Magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Center until they meet their bail conditions, and the trial was adjourned until December 5, 2023.
