The Senate has officially approved President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Mr. Shaakaa Chira as the Auditor General for the Federation (AuGF).

Chira’s confirmation took place on Wednesday, following a thorough review by senators at the Committee of the Whole, presided over by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
In addition to confirming Chira’s appointment, the Red Chamber also scrutinized and approved seven out of the ten presidential nominees for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
Their confirmation stems from the request submitted by President Tinubu, which was presented on the Senate floor by the Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

Senator Bamidele emphasized that the confirmation of the nominees adheres to the provisions of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution.
The seven confirmed RECs are Mr. Etekarnba Umoren (Akwa Ibom State), Mr. Isah Ehimeakne (Edo State), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti State), and Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Mai‘aii (Gombe State).
The list continues with Mr. Shehu Wahab (Kwara State), Mr. Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa State), and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq (Niger State).
Following the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged the newly appointed officials to leverage their experience for the effective execution of their respective responsibilities.
