In a legal case that highlights the prevalence of financial crimes, a 30-year-old man, Madaki Isah, faced charges in a Kano magistrates’ court for his alleged involvement in the theft of 40 different ATM cards.

Madaki Isah, originally from Kaduna State, is standing trial on charges related to criminal conspiracy, theft, and possession of stolen ATM cards. The alleged offences took place on July 30, 2023, within Kano.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Umar Abdullahi, the defendant worked in concert with accomplices who remain at large to dishonestly steal ATM cards belonging to various individuals, including one Mary. It is claimed that on the same day, Madaki Isah used Mary’s ATM card to withdraw N60,000 from her Eco Bank account. Furthermore, 39 other ATM cards were discovered in the defendant’s possession.

These actions are in violation of the law, as per sections 97, 287, and 319A of the Penal Code.

During the court proceedings, Madaki Isah entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar subsequently granted the defendant bail in the amount of N100,000, requiring a single reliable surety. The surety must possess real estate within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case is scheduled for further hearings, with proceedings set to continue on November 6.
