Eddie Howe discusses Newcastle’s controversial victory over Arsenal

Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, has provided his perspective on Anthony Gordon’s contentious match-winning goal against Arsenal in their recent Premier League encounter.

In a Premier League clash at St James’ Park, Newcastle secured a 1-0 victory over Arsenal, which sparked a strong reaction from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta due to the decision to award Newcastle the goal. Arteta went so far as to describe it as a “disgrace” and “embarrassing,” expressing his frustration with VAR.

VAR officials spent over four minutes reviewing the decision, examining three potential infractions: whether Newcastle’s winger Gordon was offside, whether the ball had gone out of play in the lead-up to Gordon’s goal, and whether Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was fouled by Joelinton.

When asked about his views on Newcastle’s goal, Eddie Howe shared with Sky Sports after the match: “We are in the dark, we are standing on the side of the pitch, watching VAR on the screen but without any images. I haven’t seen anything beyond what I witnessed at the time. It seemed like a legitimate goal to me.”
