Despite harrowing accounts from survivors, residents in the FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kaduna continue to fall victim to these criminals on a daily basis. ‘One-chance’ robbers specialize in snatching valuables from unsuspecting passengers and have been linked to cases of violence and even k#ll!ngs of those who resist their demands.
These criminals frequently use vehicles with mixed foreign and local plates to evade capture after committing their crimes. The syndicate has also been connected to the bandits and kidnappers causing unrest in the FCT and its surrounding regions.
In response to this disturbing trend, the FCT Police Command impounded about ten vehicles suspected of being used for ‘one-chance’ activities on October 13. Three suspects were arrested, and weapons and ammunition were seized.

While most of these incidents go underreported, they continue to occur regularly throughout the capital city, despite efforts by security operatives.

In response to the growing threat, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced plans to shut down illegal motor parks across the territory to tackle these criminal activities. Security agencies have intensified their efforts, including the establishment of a joint security task force to address the issue.
