The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has taken significant steps to bolster security preparations for the off-cycle gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, scheduled for November 11, 2023. In his latest directive, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of an additional 220 operational vehicles, including specialized equipment such as water cannons, armoured personnel carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, and tear gas canisters to these states.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja, these deployments are essential to ensuring the seamless and secure conduct of the upcoming elections. The statement further explained that in anticipation of the elections, the IGP has organized training sessions for police officers involved in election security management. Additionally, he has sought approval from the federal government for allowances and other essential support to enhance the morale of these officers during their election-related operations.
The Inspector-General of Police called upon all stakeholders in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States to promote peace, respect the rule of law, and maintain law-abiding conduct before, during, and after the elections. He emphasized that the police and other security agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent any disruptive actions that could hinder the electoral process in any of the three states.
