Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the presidential running mate of the Labour Party (LP), has urged President Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, to step down from their positions. Baba-Ahmed proposes that Senate President Godswill Akpabio should oversee a new presidential election following their resignations.

This call for action came during an interview on Arise Television, where Baba-Ahmed addressed the potential of collaborating with Tinubu’s administration. He emphatically argued that the swearing-in of Tinubu and Shettima after the 2023 presidential election was marred by fraudulence. Consequently, the LP refuses to engage with what it perceives as an illegitimate government.
In his own words, Baba-Ahmed stated, “Can Tinubu and Shettima just resign and let the Senate President conduct another election? They were fraudulently sworn in, and we will not work with an illegitimate government. If it is not constitutional, we are not touching it.”
These comments came in the wake of a press conference by the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, where he accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Supreme Court of incompetence in handling election matters.
