The Federal Government, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has successfully evacuated 161 Nigerian migrants who were stranded in Libya. This humanitarian operation, known as the Voluntary Humanitarian Repatriation (VHR) exercise, aims to prevent Nigerian migrants from being stranded in foreign countries.

Ambassador Kabiru Musa, Chargé D’Affaires En Titre of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, confirmed this operation in Abuja. He stated that the evacuees departed from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli on a chartered flight and were expected to arrive at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed Airport later in the day.

The group of evacuees consisted of 100 adult females, 37 adult males, 16 children, and eight infants. Upon their arrival in Nigeria, they will be received by officials who will facilitate their resettlement and reintegration into society.

Ambassador Musa emphasized that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that no Nigerian is left stranded or abandoned in detention facilities in Libya.
