NSCDC apprehends Bio-Data enrollment staff in Jigawa for alleged extortion

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has arrested Kingsley Nneji, a 29-year-old man, for allegedly demanding money from eligible civil servants before registering them in the ongoing bio-data capture of the state civil servants. The arrest was made by the Anti-Fraud Unit of the NSCDC Jigawa State Command following a complaint lodged by the husband of an aggrieved civil servant. The complainant reported that his wife, a Jigawa State Government employee, missed the enrollment exercise due to illness. Mr. Kingsley, who was assigned to conduct the enrollment, allegedly demanded N10,000 for her registration. The complainant provided evidence, including call records, bank account details of the suspect, and a customized envelope used for the transaction. At the time of arrest, the suspect had the specified amount neatly placed in the envelope. The CEO of the company conducting the exercise distanced his company from Mr. Kingsley, stating that the suspect’s contract had expired, and the company had strict policies against financial impropriety. The suspect confessed to the crime and will face charges in court. This incident follows reports of some staff involved in the bio-data verification exercise making unwarranted demands from civil servants.
