Edu emphasized the critical need for intervention due to the severe hardships faced by IDPs in Benue State. The Federal Government intends to officially communicate with both local and international development partners and donor agencies, urging immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis in Benue.
Expressing the urgency of the situation, Edu stated, “The humanitarian situation in Benue is unacceptable; people must be adequately resettled in their ancestral homes. The Benue Government cannot do this alone.” She further highlighted her commitment to closely monitoring the interventions carried out by partners in Benue.
Additionally, the minister revealed that the Federal Government, originally planning to commence construction at one resettlement site, would now initiate construction at two locations in response to the escalating crisis. Edu assured the affected individuals that her focus over the next six months would be dedicated to finding solutions and working with the governor to build low-cost homes for them.
