The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the reported actions of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, concerning the alleged hostage-taking of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in Twon-Brass, the headquarters of Brass Local Government Area in the state.

According to a statement released by the PDP’s publicity secretary, Ebiye Ogoli, Sylva reportedly entered the INEC office on Brass Island on Sunday, attempting to manipulate the results of the gubernatorial election in the local government area. The electoral officers resisted his attempts and were allegedly held hostage by Sylva’s thugs.

The PDP expressed deep concern that Sylva’s actions led to the tragic killing of one of its young supporters, Berepelenyo George Sibo, by the alleged thugs in Twon-Brass. The party lamented the loss of a young life due to the reprehensible actions of political thugs, emphasizing the disregard for the sanctity of human life.

The party, while expressing sadness over the incident, stated that Sylva’s behavior aligns with his history of engaging in violent politics. It urged the APC candidate to reflect on these actions and the overall election outcome, encouraging him to prioritize the sanctity of the electoral process over a do-or-die approach.
