In a circular addressed to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of ASUU, stated, “As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of NLC to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and the leadership of the union. Zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons should immediately mobilize our members to participate in the action.”
This decision follows the directive from NLC and TUC, instructing their affiliates to commence the planned nationwide strike, set to begin at midnight on Monday. The strike serves as a response to the recent alleged assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero by the Nigerian police and the Imo State government.
ASUU’s participation adds a considerable force to the nationwide strike, reflecting solidarity among various labor unions in Nigeria. The move aims to address the reported assault and collectively voice concerns regarding the treatment of Nigerian workers.
