Ben Bruce opposes Nationwide strike, citing National interest

Former federal lawmaker, Ben Murray Bruce, has expressed his disapproval of the indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

While acknowledging the recent assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero by the Nigerian Police in Imo State, Ben Bruce cautioned against a nationwide strike, emphasizing that it is not in Nigeria’s best interest.

In a statement, he highlighted, “A nationwide strike now because of an isolated incident in just one state that is already being addressed is not in Nigeria’s interest. It may further a personal interest, but it will harm the national interest. Power must not be used to settle scores.”

Bruce urged the NLC to consider the broader implications, emphasizing the need to prioritize the national interest, economic progress, and democratic values.
