The organised labour in Rivers State has pledged unwavering commitment to the resolutions reached at the joint National Executive Council meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Abuja on Monday.

In a joint statement, the NLC and TUC announced their decision to instruct affiliate unions to mobilise members for a comprehensive shutdown of all work environments, both public and private, commencing on Tuesday.
The statement, endorsed by the state chairpersons of NLC, Alex Agwanwor, and TUC, Ikechukwu Onyefuru, highlighted the basis for this nationwide industrial action. The national secretariat of both congresses directed all affiliates at the state level to coordinate the withdrawal of services from Tuesday, November 14, 2023. This action aims to emphasize the labour movement’s demands for an enhanced working environment.
The Rivers State organised labour further disclosed the establishment of a task force to diligently monitor the compliance of all unions. The statement concluded with a reminder to workers that unity is paramount: “Injury to one is an injury to all.”

The statement reads, “Sequel to the joint decision of the National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) held on the 7th of November, 2023, declaring a nationwide industrial action with effect from Tuesday, 14 November 2023.”
