According to a statement by Ayodele Babalola, Special Adviser on Media to NIMC Acting Director General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the ongoing revalidation of FEPs is a necessary step to assess and verify outstanding debts inherited from previous management before payment.
Babalola emphasized that the revalidation process, initiated in October, is part of a concerted effort to address the backlog of payments owed to FEPs. He highlighted that the Acting DG assumed office in August, inheriting debts for the year 2022 and the first eight months of 2023.
The statement countered the assertion that the revalidation process, which began recently, had caused problems for the National ID project. It clarified that NIN enrollment, data modifications, and other NIMC services continue without interruption at local government and state offices nationwide.

Furthermore, the statement indicated that the last payment made to FEPs, covering the year 2021, occurred in March 2022, well before the current administration assumed office. The clarification aims to dispel the notion that the Acting DG is responsible for outstanding debts or challenges related to the National ID scheme.
NIMC also affirmed its commitment to providing services at its various centers across the country and assured that a contactless solution for diasporans is in the works. The statement concluded by directing interested individuals to the NIMC website for a list of all local government and state office centers along with their locations.
