NWFL opener ends in stalemate as confluence Queens and Dannaz FC share points

Kogi State Confluence Queens FC kicked off the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season with a goalless draw against Dannaz FC Ladies on matchday one at the Edo State University Stadium, Iyamho.

Playing their first home match away from home due to the unfavorable condition of Lokoja Confluence Stadium, Confluence Queens faced psychological distractions but dominated various aspects of the game. Despite creating several chances, neither team managed to break the deadlock.

Nana Yusuf had a notable opportunity for Confluence Queens, but she failed to convert a chance from Merit Offor’s precise delivery. Dannaz FC Ladies also had their moments on the counter, but the defensive line of Confluence Queens stood firm.

As the first half concluded, Confluence Queens had another close chance to score, but Nana couldn’t capitalize on a headed opportunity. The second half saw continued pressure from Confluence Queens, with both teams missing various opportunities to secure a lead.

A pivotal moment arose when Confluence Queens were awarded a penalty for a rough challenge in the box. Unfortunately, Amarachi Okoronkwo’s attempt missed the target, disappointing the fans.

After the game, Confluence Queens FC Coach Sabo Okala expressed disappointment over the wasted chances but vowed to work hard to bring out the best in the team. Dannaz FC Ladies Head Coach, Diana Asak Johnson, was pleased with securing a point on the road and pledged to build on it in future matches.

Confluence Queens FC will travel to Adamawa on November 22, 2023, to face Adamawa Queens Football Club in their upcoming fixture.
