In a signed statement, Babajimi emphasized that these funds would be directed toward the development of host communities, aiming to mitigate the impact of the activities of Power Generating Companies (GENCOs).
Babajimi stated, “The Senate of the National Assembly concurred to the bill I sponsored for an act to amend the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, to address the concerns of host communities and for related matters.”
Upon the President’s assent, host communities, especially those around the Egbin Thermal Power Station in Ikorodu Federal Constituency, are expected to receive 5% of the actual annual operating expenditure from various GENCOs operating within their area.

Highlighting the significance of this move, Babajimi remarked, “This is a milestone for us as the communities will be able to glean the full benefits of hosting the GENCOs. It will also guide GENCOs in providing targeted developmental projects that will impact the lives of our people and their host communities.”
Expressing gratitude to fellow legislators for their dedication to passing the bill, Babajimi appealed to President Tinubu to promptly approve this significant legislation.
