Mayorkun reveals why he kept his Mother’s identity secret for years

Nigerian music sensation, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has opened up about the reason behind his decision to keep his mother’s identity undisclosed for an extended period.

In a candid conversation with Taymesan on Saturday, Mayorkun shared the motivation behind his choice, citing a desire to avoid preferential treatment based on his mother’s fame.

In a viral clip circulating on the internet, the singer reflected on his upbringing, confessing that he and his brother were not initially thrilled about their mother, actress Toyin Adewale, being a renowned movie star. The fame brought unwarranted attention and artificial interactions that Mayorkun found uncomfortable.

He expressed, “Growing up, my brother and I didn’t like the fact that our mom was a popular actress because we wanted freedom, but with her fame came fake attention and all. I hated being treated differently, not because you like me but because I am Toyin Adewale’s son.”

Mayorkun went on to reveal that during his university days, he deliberately kept his mother’s identity a secret for four years. He wanted to be recognized for who he was as an individual, not as the son of a famous actress.

The singer recounted an incident when his mother visited him at school, and he swiftly retrieved the items she brought to avoid drawing attention. This deliberate effort to maintain privacy reflects Mayorkun’s commitment to being treated without bias based on his family background.
