Fireboy reflects on a transformative 2023 in music

Renowned Nigerian artist, Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, delves into the reasons behind the musical quietude he has experienced in 2023.

Despite his global success in 2021 and 2022, fueled by the release of the chart-topping hit ‘Peru’ and a remix featuring British superstar Ed Sheeran, Fireboy emphasizes the significance of this year as a period of personal and artistic growth.

In a recent interview with Wat And Ers, Fireboy shares, “2023 has been a year of learning and growth for me as a person and as an artist. I’m genuinely grateful for the journey, appreciating the need to step back from the chaos.”

Acknowledging the importance of being human amidst the demands of an artist’s life, Fireboy states, “Sometimes, it’s okay to step out from being an artist and realize that you’re human as well, with an actual life and real problems like everybody else. This year has taught me to appreciate all those things.”

Reflecting on his whirlwind schedule the previous year, he notes, “I barely had time for my personal life, but this year has been rather quiet, allowing me to spend more time with family in Lagos, Nigeria.”

While recognizing the transformative impact of his hit song ‘Peru,’ Fireboy explains, “Last year took me to so many places all at once, but 2023 is a year for artists to grow, step back from the craziness, and savor life for what it truly is.”
