Paolo Maldini’s attempt to sign Messi

In a revelation that adds a fascinating twist to transfer history, AC Milan icon Paolo Maldini has disclosed his unsuccessful attempt to secure Lionel Messi’s signature for the club.

Maldini, who served as the Technical Director of the Serie A side until his dismissal at the conclusion of the previous season, shared that he made efforts to bring Messi to Milan when the Argentine maestro was departing Barcelona as a free agent in 2021.

“For 10 days, we tried to bring Messi to Milan, but then we realized it was impossible. It is too late now, but a player like Messi is a spectacle for anyone to witness. When I read that he might even go to Inter, I got scared,” Maldini revealed on the PoretCast show.

Despite Maldini’s efforts, Messi ultimately opted for a move to Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal. However, the football landscape took another turn as Messi currently plies his trade for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS).
