Osun State sets sights on mining revitalization by 2024

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has unveiled plans to initiate mining processes in the state by the year 2024. Emphasizing the enforcement of environmental standards in the mining industry, Governor Adeleke highlighted the ongoing efforts to clean up polluted environments within the state.

These announcements came in response to a comprehensive briefing presented by Prof Lukman Adekilekun Jimoda, the Special Adviser on Mining and Solid Minerals, during a session in Osogbo on Thursday.

Governor Adeleke reflected on his commitment made a year ago to overhaul the mining sector, aiming to maximize returns from the state’s abundant solid mineral resources. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made by his administration in enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for environmental degradation in mining operations, acknowledging the positive outcomes achieved.

“We are experiencing an upswing in revenue generation, with accumulated service charges on our licenses successfully cleared. The conversion of exploration leases to mining leases is nearing completion, poised to attract more investors,” stated Governor Adeleke, underlining the fulfillment of promises made within the first year of his tenure. He particularly commended the stringent enforcement of environmental standards.

In his address, Prof Jimoda reassured Governor Adeleke of unwavering efforts to implement the mining sector reform outlined by the administration, affirming the commitment to revitalizing the mining industry in Osun State.
