The North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has identified the poor road network as a major factor contributing to insecurity and impeding development in the Northeast region. The communique, signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, and read by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, expressed disappointment over the region’s inadequate infrastructure.

“More concerned that the Federal roads within and between the states in the region have been neglected. It thus calls on the Federal Ministry of Works to follow through with road contracts awarded in the region,” the statement appealed.

In addition to the road network challenges, the forum also highlighted the deficiencies in the rail system within the region. It emphasized that the repairs on the old gauge rail lines are not a sustainable solution and called for the inclusion of the region in the Nigerian National Railway Transport Plan, utilizing modern gauge rail technology.
