Shearer points finger at Reece James for Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle

Former England striker Alan Shearer has laid blame on Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, for their disappointing 4-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.

James, who has been a consistent starter for the Blues, received a second yellow card in the 73rd minute for a foul on Anthony Gordon, leaving Chelsea with 10 players on the field. Having recently returned from a hamstring problem, James’ suspension adds to Chelsea’s defensive concerns.

Speaking on BBC Radio, Shearer criticized James’ performance, stating, “Chelsea were terrible in the second half. They were made to look terrible by Newcastle, who put them under pressure.”

Shearer specifically highlighted the tough time Anthony Gordon gave Reece James during the match, adding, “Gordon seems to be really enjoying his time at Newcastle. A bit of frustration from James, and he got sent off.”
