Xabi Alonso identifies Patrik Schick as potential stand-in for Boniface during AFCON

Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, has expressed confidence in Patrik Schick’s ability to step up if Victor Boniface is called up for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January. Boniface is expected to join the Super Eagles for the tournament, especially with Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest facing surgery.

Should Boniface be selected for the final squad, Leverkusen will lose a key player who has been in remarkable form since his summer transfer. However, Alonso remains calm about the potential absence, trusting Schick to fill the void.

With the AFCON scheduled from January 13th to February 11th, Alonso stated, “We wait and see. Patrik is in a good mood, and he is strong, and with him, we are in no hurry.” Schick, 27, has recently returned to training after being sidelined due to injury.
