Confirming this directive to the media, Fauziyya D. Sulaiman, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Vulnerable and Needy, highlighted the Governor’s response to complaints regarding individuals with mental health disorders wandering the streets, some in a state of undress and vulnerable to mistreatment.
Sulaiman stated, “The Governor has received several complaints about individuals with mental health disorders roaming the streets in the metropolis and environs. Some of them go about naked, and, in the process, some have been molested, especially the female.”
In light of these concerns, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken the decisive step of ordering their evacuation from the streets, directing that they be transferred to psychiatric hospitals to receive appropriate and compassionate medical care.
