The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Umar Mohammed, has been proactive in addressing domestic v#olence, handling 50 cases over the past five months. During a one-day seminar organized by the command’s gender unit, Umar reiterated the commitment to eradicating Gender-Based V#olence (GBV) in the state.

Under Umar’s leadership, the gender unit has dealt with 10 instances of physical ass@ult, with numerous cases currently progressing through the legal system, a testament to the command’s dedication to securing justice for GBV victims.

At the seminar marking the International Day for the ‘Elimination of V#olence Against Women,’ Umar emphasized the command’s unwavering stance in the ongoing fight against GBV. He stressed the readiness of the corps to collaborate persistently with relevant stakeholders to comprehensively combat this societal menace.

Dada Rachael, Head of the Gender Unit, highlighted the seminar’s primary goal of raising awareness about women and girls in the public domain. The Kwara State National Human Rights Coordinator, Barrister Olaoye Olajumoke, underscored the necessity to adopt and strengthen policies promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls at all levels.

Olajumoke further emphasized the critical importance of designing mechanisms to eliminate discrimination against women and girls in both public and private spheres, addressing issues ranging from s#xual exploitation to other forms of discrimination.
