Ondo’s political landscape shifts as Aiyedatiwa returns as Acting Governor

The political scenario in Ondo State witnessed a notable change as Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa returned to the state after crucial discussions in Abuja, including a meeting with President Bola Tinubu. Aiyedatiwa’s return follows heightened tensions and debates surrounding the absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Arriving at Akure Airport via a commercial airline, Aiyedatiwa was warmly welcomed by Ifedayo Abegunde, an influential figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Director of Corporate Affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The political landscape further evolved as the State House of Assembly confirmed the receipt of a letter from Governor Akeredolu, formally transferring executive powers to Aiyedatiwa during his medical leave.

This development, arising from the governor’s absence, led to internal divisions within the State Executive Council, with some commissioners aligning themselves with Aiyedatiwa. Additionally, reports surfaced alleging the forging of the governor’s signature by certain officials. The unfolding events suggest a significant shift in Ondo’s political dynamics.
