Promoting accountability and unity: Kogi NUJ urges journalists and politicians

The recently elected Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kogi State, Ademu Seidu, received a call from the outgoing Chairman, Momohjimoh Adeiza, encouraging journalists to uphold accountability in their reportage. Adeiza also appealed to political stakeholders to adopt a power-sharing arrangement in alignment with the state’s historical agreements.

The call for accountability and unity was emphasized during the triennial delegate conference that marked the transition of leadership. Ademu Seidu, a Kogi State Ministry of Information employee, succeeded Adeiza after his six-year tenure.

The NUJ executive members elected alongside Seidu include Ibrahim Obansa as Vice Chairman, Ayindero-Oyenibi Olusegun as Secretary, Ali Josephine Unekwu as Auditor, Abdulsalam Abubakar Mohammed as Financial Secretary, Sunny Adebuja as Treasurer, and Atuluku Samuel as Assistant Secretary.

Reflecting on the recent Kogi State Governorship election, Adeiza urged politicians to embrace a power-sharing model, emphasizing the benefits of rotational governance witnessed in other states. He stressed that this approach fosters unity, peace, and healthy competition, echoing the sentiments of Kogi’s founding fathers.

In his inaugural speech, Chairman Ademu Seidu pledged to enhance the welfare and capacity building of journalists across Kogi State, underlining his commitment to fostering professional growth within the NUJ community.
